Week 10 picks

Its Week 10 and the NFL is frantically trying to come up with explanations to a couple of phenomena that has rocked their world:

1. The Browns, Chiefs, Bucs, and Raiders are no joke.

2. The Cowboys, and Vikings are.

3. The Super Bowl is bound to have way too many shots with Jerry Jones looking bummed in the owners suite next to Roger Goodell as his botox begins to wear out and his skin becomes this rubbery look- even scarier than it is now.

4. Controversy surging about protecting players that has the defensive players crying for the NFL to stop being soft and the offensive players very quiet. Something that could manifest itself in labor talks more and more.

Ok, so there are more pressing issues, but on a tight deadline created by lazyness, your stuck with just these few.

Week 10 NFL folks, let’s go!

Cincy (+7) over COLTS- The most impressive Peyton Manning season ever. No question. He’s making practice players and draft afterthoughts major players and doing so in a season where most evaluators have noticed a slight drop in his speed and quickness. Never mind that he’s never played behind an offensive line suited to run the football thereby making his play that much more crucial, which begs the question, why do I pick Cincy over the Colts? IF Carson Palmer is THE garbage time quarterback then he should play lights out now for the rest of the year now that his team is virtually out of contention. Right?

Texans (+1.5) over JAGS- I’m pretty sure that the Jags will throw all over the Texans but my gut says this will be an offensive game and not many can flex like Houston.

DOLPHINS (pick ’em) over Titans- The Titans are a good road team but Chad Pennington is starting for a Dolphins team in desperate search for a jolt offensively. I think the Dolphins D keeps it close and Pennington connects with Marshall for one of his patented beautiful rainbows.

Vikings (-1.5) over BEARS- I’m not a fan of either team and frankly, a division poised to be one of the most competitive has been one reeling with one idiot after another (Brett Favre, Brad Childress) and that’s just the Vikings, then there’s king douche (Jay Cutler), and the dirtiest team in football (Lions- according to the Jets). I see Favre and AP having big days.

BILLS (-2) over Lions- If the Bills don’t get this win, we are looking at the second 0-16 season in 3 years. The NFL may just look into extending the season to 18 games just to avoid winless teams.

Jets (-3) over BROWNS- FYI, I found the back and forth between Rex, his brother Rob, and Mangenious as bad. How do I know it was bad? Somehow Mangenious came out as the funniest from amongst the group and he never brought props. This is a dangerous Browns team. Give Mangini credit, his tenure as head coach can be marked with improvement. He may not be the media darling, but he gets the job done. Whether his contract gets renewed or not (depending on how bad Holmgren wants to coach again), he should be considered for one of the big jobs that will come available. Is Jerry Jones listening?

BUCS (-7) over Panthers- whens the last time that the Bucs were 7 pt favorites on gameday? The power of Josh Freeman, fourth quarter QB. He’s been impressive and instilled confidence in a young team. IF the front office can infuse this young team with productive and good locker room veterans, this team in a year even, can be contenders. They’ve got players and their head coach is motivating and making them believe.

Chiefs (-1) over BRONCOS- Its good to have the Chiefs back as a good team. They are a fun young bunch and probably playing better than their coach expected them to which is good but sets them up for the hard fall next year. Their greatest flaw is that their big money QB and money WR are turrible. Matt Cassell can’t throw the ball effectively and when he does, Dwayne Bowe drops them. Why they don’t throw it to Tony Moeaki in goal line situations, I will never know.

RAMS (+5.5) over 49ers- Here’s another team that Vegas stubbornly refuses to quit. Spags has the defense playing really well and Bradford is a franchise QB.

CARDS (-3) over Seahawks- I don’t blame the Hawks for not playing well last week, the Giants are in one of those stretches where the 86 Bears couldve been there on the field that day, even they wouldve lost. The Leon Washington fumble and bad defense snowballed any shot of them winning. The Cards are not that good (which is surprising) in a division that is NOT good (not surprising), but the seahawks won’t win this game. Not after that Giants game.

GIANTS (-13.5) over Cowboys- This is not just a zealous fan laughing at the misery of his rival team’s misery, that happened 3 weeks ago. I thought there were some troubling signs heading into this game:
1. G-men looked as dominating as they did last year which got me wondering if they were setting us up again.
2. Dallas made a change and teams that make dramatic changes always have that one game where they come like a bat out of hell in that first game and the other team doesn’t know what hit it.
3. No Steve Smith and a make shift offensive line. While most want to put Hakeem Nicks as the best receiver on the team, I don’t. I believe physicallly he’s the most gifted, but watch Smith run routes and you can tell that Eli can close his eyes and throw the football to a spot and Smith will make the catch. He’s always there. Smith isn’t the biggest or fastest, he just makes plays.
Rich Seubert at center? Shawn Andews at left tackle? David Diehl at right tackle? Who do they think they are?

But then, I remembered that this is the Cowboys, a team that had mentally checked out weeks ago. A team so talented that this week ESPN tried to convince us that Jason Garrett was already changing the culture in Little D. Sorry, Jason Garrrett does not scare me and neither does this team. The Giants should get good production this week from the passing game but not from Mario Manningham. Here’s some fantasy advice: look for Ramses Barden.

STEELERS (-4.5) over Patriots- The Pats are the luckiest 6-3 team. They are NOT that good, make no mistake. Let’s not overstate Belichiek and Brady like this is 2003. That argument worked then, not now. Rashad Mendenhall will have a huge day. (Biased advice alert: he’s in my money league).

Eagles (-3) over REDSKINS- Since that feel good win over the Iggles in which Vick went down with broken ribs, the Mike Shanahan-Donovan McNabb has fallen quicker than the stock market and its gotten insulting to the point that Albert Haynesworth may somehow have been right. The Iggles win big and return serve to the Skins in capitol city.
